When Tibet first opened for travellers in 1985, The Samye trail was the most popular tour route crossing 2 mountain passes, beautiful alpine lakes and nomads. The tour begins from The Ganden Monastery (4180 m), 32 kms by road from Lhasa high above the Kyichu River and ends at The Samye Monastery. The main temple Utse at Samye represents Mount Meru, centre of the Universe.

Samye Valley tour itinerary

Day 01 : Fly Kathmandu to Lhasa.
Upon arrival at Gonggar airport, you shall be met and transfer provided to Lhasa City. O/nt at Hotel.
 
Day 02-03 : Lhasa Sightseeing Tour
Visit The Potala & Norbulinka Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung & Sera Monastery and Barkhor Bazaar. O/nts at Hotel in Lhasa.

Day 04 : Drive to Ganden
Drive to Ganden Monastery. Trek to Hebu. Camp.

Day 05 :  Zhukar
Trek over Zhukar La Pass (5200m). Camp.

Day 06 : Chetur
Cross Chetur La Pass through alpine Lakes. Camp.

Day 07 : Yomalung
Trek visiting Yomalung meditation cave enroute. Camp.

Day 08 : Samye Valley
Trek to The Samye Valley. Visit the Samye Monastery. Camp.

Day 09 : Brahmaputra
Cross the Brahmaputra River and drive to Tsetang to explore The Yambhulhakhang, Tibet's first castle and Cha-Duk Monastery. O/nt at Hotel Tsetang.

Day 10 : Gyantse
Drive to Gyantse enroute visiting Yamdrok - Tso Lake. O/nt at hotel.

Day 11 : Shigatse
Drive to Shigatse. O/nt at hotel.

Day 12 : Tingri
Drive to Tingri visiting Shakya Monastery enroute. O/nt at guesthouse.

Day 13 : Nyalamu
Drive to Nyalamu. O/nt at hotel.

Day 14 : Zhangmu
Drive downhill to Zhangmu and proceed further to The friendship Bridge where transportation awaits for the group's journey to Kathmandu.
