Nepal is famous for adventure activities like paragliding. Pokhara Nepal is one of the top five commercial tandem paragliding locations in the world. Paragliding in Pokhara is well worth. Pokhara is the best due to its ideal conditions. Pokhara has stable thermals, convenient take-off and landing zones, the safety of a large lake below, and incredible mountain views. Pokhara is a great place to try paragliding for the first time. Paragliding in Nepal provides an excellent opportunity to get an aerial view of the Himalayas. If you don't have time to go for paragliding in Pokhara, it is also possible to do paragliding in Kathmandu.

Paragliding is definitely one of the must-do activities in Nepal. Of course there are many other places in the world where you can try this sport, but it would be hard to find one that offers views as spectacular as the Himalayan peaks. If you’re a first-timer, tandem paragliding is a great choice for you. The best thing about it is you don’t have to worry about anything except sitting back and enjoying the views. Paragliding is one of the most preferred adventure sports in Nepal. Kathmandu and Pokhara is the place where you can start your first paragliding experience.

Paragliding in Nepal Difficulty
Paragliding is not a physically demanding activity — at least not for the passenger. So, don’t worry if you’re not very athletic. As long as you’re in reasonably good health, you’re fit to fly. However, paragliding is not suitable for pregnant women or those with asthma, epilepsy, osteoporosis, or heart disease. If you suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes, it is best to get your doctor’s advice before taking part in this sport.

Additionally, if you have extreme fear of heights or a tendency to behave erratically when scared, perhaps paragliding is not for you, as it can put both you and your pilot in a dangerous situation. The maximum weight limit is 100 kilograms. There’s usually no age limit for paragliding — even children as young as 4 years old are welcome to join — but again, please check with the company you’re booking with.

Best time to go paragliding in Nepal
Paragliding is a weather-dependent sport. It’s not safe to fly when there are strong winds, lightnings, rain showers, or storms.Paragliding in Nepal is possible in all seasons except the rainy season in July and August. The paragliding season in Nepal starts in September and ends in early June. The perfect flying time is March, April, May, September, October, and November. In these seasons you can get a stunning view of Phewa Lake and Annapurna Ranges above 8,000 meters. The sun needs to be out long enough to heat the earth and create the thermals necessary for lift. The early morning flights tend to be shorter as the thermals haven’t developed, but are calmer if you want a less turbulent flight. By late morning, the thermals will be active which creates the best conditions for paragliding (i.e. you will be in the air longer).

The flights are operated three times a day: in the morning at around 10 a.m., at 12 noon, and at 2 p.m. If you prefer a calm and smooth flight, try to book the morning session, as the thermal hasn’t yet formed early in the day. By noon when the sun has warmed up the land, flights can be more turbulent — or more exciting, depending on how you look at it.

Safe for Paragliding in Pokhara
Paragliding in Pokhara is generally a safe activity. It’s probably safer than crossing the street at a busy intersection in town! There are more than 250 flights a day during peak season. In case of an accident, you have a reserve chute and a large lake for safety. However, it is an extreme adventure sport and risks are involved. The biggest risk is during take-off and landing if there is a sudden change in wind. Paragliding is operated with safety and with internationally certified pilots.

Experience Needed for paragliding in Nepal
You don’t need to have any experience to go tandem paragliding. The pilot will do all the work so you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the incredible views.

Paragliding In Nepal Cost
Tandem Paragliding flights typically cost around NPR 10,000 (USD 90) for a 30-minute flight and NPR 16,000 (USD 140) for a one-hour flight. The price includes transportation to and from your hotel and insurance. Photo and video services are usually charged separately at about NPR 2,000 (USD 17) or so.

Taking Photos/Video
For an additional 2,000 NPR, we will take photos/videos of your flight which get transferred to you immediately after the flight. They allow you to bring your camera during the flight but discourage taking any cameras that are not a sports camera (i.e. GoPro). However, taking your own camera equipment is at your own risk and they won’t cover any damage.

Expect on Paragliding Tour
You will meet at our paragliding office in Lakeside. From there, the group will take a 20-minute jeep ride uphill to Sarangkot viewpoint which is 2000 ft above Lakeside. The views are beautiful there. The crew will begin to set up all the equipment and provide you with a briefing on what to do. Don’t worry, because the pilots do all the work. You will just sit back and they will strap you into the equipment. In order to begin the flight the pilot needs to catch the right wind, so you will wait on the hill for a minute or so, and then the pilot will tell you to start running down. I had to do this twice because the first run didn’t catch. Once the wind catches you will start to fly in the air and the adventure begins. Flying in the air is much less scary.
